    Since lost my baby

As a 82 year old guy who was married for almost 50 years to a great cook, I struggle. I lost my sweetie in Jan., and since then I am chief cook and dishwasher. I can't even think of trying the things my wife used to cook. Frozen foods have to do. Tonight I am having Seapac frozen Tempora shrimp and frozen french fries. It's edible but nothing like my sweetie would be serving. You guys who at this moment are waiting for your wives to give you the dinner call, compliment her on her efforts. It might not be forever.

Good post AZ. Life can change in a moment. When my wife passed she was here one day, gone the next. I don't remember much about the next couple of years except it was very disorienting and dam hell. Hang in there. I just ate a beef pot pie and a ham sandwich so I totally understand your plight. Again, just hang on.

I didn't know your wife passed recently Jim, I'm so sorry. I hope you're getting by ok.

I lost my dad last month and I have to call my stepmom more frequently because I know she's struggling to adjust to being alone.

For the record it's "chief cook and bottle washer" as my dad used to say. And for the record, I've done 90% of the cooking in my household of close to 30 years. Mostly because she isn't that good of a cook and mostly because I really like cooking.

Jim - I don't know what your budget is like but if you're in a fairly populous area you can try Uber Eats, basically a delivery service for meals. Probably pricier than just doing it yourself but maybe do that once or twice a week for a change-up.

Very nice post AZ; like you say; compliment your wife on her cooking since we never know what can happen from day-to-day. Since I burn water, all of the cooking is done by her and a damn fine cook is she. I constantly thank her for not only for her culinary skills but also for being a wonderful wife and mother to both of our now-grown children. Always brings a smile to her face. Btw, she cooks and I get to clean up afterwards...seems only fair to me.

Once I tell you that we agree to disagree there will be no more discussion between us in the thread so please don't waste your time continuing to argue your points because I will not respond.

ok, that's the other one I couldn't remember.

I figured it was costly but might not be a bad change of pace sometimes.

I don't cook "small" since I have two grown boys still at home so I don't have a lot of ideas for cooking smaller meals, maybe @Dr. Who has some ideas, she's super smart with stuff like this.

((hugs)) Much love to you AZ. When my grandma died my grandpa was in the same position. Something that helped him was cooking in a pressure cooker. Kind like what @Captain Obvious talks about with the Instantpot. For me I would have used a crockpot. But I guess that is so yesterday, LoL. But you can use something like a pressure cooker, or crockpot, and you can pretty much just toss the food in it throw a bit of seasoning in and voila it cooks it for you. It can really help make meal time easier. You can toss in meat like chicken or a roast, and throw some veggies in like potato and carrots. That could make a nice meal, and easier than cooking.

Hang in there friend. Well said in the OP we should never take today for granted.
We are all brothers and sisters in humanity. We are all made from the same dust of stars. We cannot be separated because all life is interconnected.
