A transgender teen got the royal treatment when he was crowned prom king of his Cape Cod high school.
Nicholas Bulman, who attends Barnstable High School in Hyannis, was showered with love and support from pals at the “Great Gatsby”-themed dance Friday,
according to the Cape Cod Times.
“It was … really awesome,” he told the paper of his prom king status. “All my friends hugged me and congratulated me.”
Bulman, who had previously lived as “Nicole,” announced his new gender identity and began transitioning last summer, he said.
Friends were more encouraging than he’d ever imagined, cheering him on and sending messages of support.
During the dance, at the town’s Resort and Conference Center, his date, Kalyani Clarke, was crowned prom queen, he said.
Teachers said Bulman is simply a great kid.
“[He] was a great candidate [for prom king] … He’s just an all-around great person,” said class adviser Lyn Vazquez.
