They enjoyed the war materiel for the Ural production factories. The Cold War “eventuated” because of ambitions for Wesrern Europe. Eastern Europe was forfeited. Now, please do post something sympathetic about Stalin.

Yes, the Russian people were unquestionably instrumental in the defeat of Nazi Germany. Starting at Orel.

Western Allied forces gave the Soviet Union roughly a month for them to prepare with ditches, etc., for Orel by invading Italy and moving north. It led German Command to move many armor and personnel south from Orel.

They sacrificed so much more than the West commonly/popularly acknowledges.

That was why FDR pushed to hold off on D-Day: to let the Soviets bleed for a while.

I doubt it. I seriously doubt it. The Normandy invasion was the largest amphibious operation ever. It took years of planning, intelligence gathering, force structure sizing, the accumulation of enormous numbers of landing craft, ships, underwater and over the shore logistics, development of special operations, deep support operations, movement of arms, ammunition, aircraft, command and control. In short, everything.

At no time prior to July or August 1944 did it appear the allies would win.

Agreed. In addition, the Western Allies were simply not prepared prior to 1944. They acquired valuable and absolutely necessary experience in North Africa and Italy.

Stalin and Churchill were pushing FDR to launch any western-front long before D-Day. FDR stalled. He wanted the Soviets to bleed down their combat power.

FDR and Churchill were very worried that Stalin would arrange for a separate peace. FDR didn't stall because he wanted his buddy, Stalin harmed. He was stalling because of the task's enormity.

The Germans had enough combat power near Normandy to toss the allies back into the sea. Deceptions and allied air power kept the Germans in place until it was too late for them to respond effectively.
