Christ said so. That is good enough for me.

I am am sorry you have issues with the Church. The Church hierarchy isn’t perfect and has much to atone for. I almost left the Church over the abuse crisis. I then decided that I wasn’t going to let evil drive me from the Church. So, I got involved in drafting the investigation protocol.

Clearly, it isn’t for you. To ridicule it as a cult denigrates it’s faithful. You are welcome anytime.

Yes. Yourself. Moreover, sin typically begins as a thought, a fantasy etc.

So how many sins does a Catholic man , or woman, commit on an average trip to the beach?

    We are sinners.

I am not sure an appreciative glance constitutes lusting after another woman. At least, I hope not.

It doesn't. Lust entails longing and a desire you've consciously indulged.

Who knows? As DGU said we all sin but you seem to think admiring a woman's beauty is condemned. Think of it like the commandment not to covet your neighbor's house. If I were to look at someone's house I happen to jog past one day and think "wow, that's a really nice place" am I coveting my neighbor's house?

Basically, what Christ is saying is that 1) one does not avoid sin simply by refusing to act on an evil desire and 2) all sin begins in the heart and mind. You will eventually act on the desire.

There is a difference between "lust" and "looking". Lust is:

    intense sexual desire or appetite.
uncontrolled or illicit sexual desire or appetite; lecherousness.
a passionate or overmastering desire or craving.

Unless looking becomes overwhelming and acted upon its no more than a mere temptation, which is not sinful in itself. We are warned to avoid temptation because it can lead to action but at no time does God tell us temptation in and of itself is a sinful act.

But sometimes we take that glance home into our own bedroom and so do the women. That seems like a minor sin compared to an affair. The concept turned me off even as a teen. If those thoughts were sins than hell I might as well just go for it. Even further back I guess I actually thought about being put in purgatory if I died having missed a Mass, which they had be believing ( hopefully wrongly) was a Mortal sin.

OK, that makes more sense. The term they use is "Covet", correct?
