If by "this issue" you're referring to the Bishop's ordering the withholding of Communion from the two lawmakers, I haven't heard anyone suggest that the government should "insert itself" anywhere. I certainly haven't; that's why I wrote that it wasn't legally actionable.

The Bishop's withholding of communion isn't a separation of church and state issue.

Government has in in fact inserted itself in the abortion issue.

I believe he meant the govt inserting itself into the aborton issue.

This isnt the first time the catholic church has denied issuing communion to individuals.

This is a very long article and a difficult read, if anyone does read it, it will be less than I have fingers on one hand for sure. I posted only the first paragraph, there are several.

Canon 915: The Discipline Regarding the Denial of Holy Communion to Those Obstinately Persevering in Manifest Grave Sin

    ROMA
    PONTIFICIA UNIVERSITÀ GREGORIANA
    PIAZZA DELLA PILOTTA, 4
    PERIODICA 96 (2007) 3-58

During the election campaign of 2004 in the United States of America, some Bishops found themselves under question by other Bishops regarding the application of can. 915 of the Code of Canon Law in the case of Catholic politicians who publicly, after admonition, continue to support legislation favoring procured abortion and other legislation contrary to the natural moral law, for example, legislation permitting the cloning of human life for the purpose of harvesting stem cells by the destruction of the artificially-generated human embryo, and legislation redefining marriage to include a relationship between persons of the same sex. The gravity of the sin of procured abortion and of the sins involved in the commission of other intrinsically-evil acts seemed to place the Catholic politicians among those who obstinately persevere in manifest grave sin, about whom can. 915 treats.

The Church should excommunicate them. They are pro-death. The Church is not. No Christian should advocate for murder.

Let us know when you finally figure out what the Capital of Illinois is. Oh and just because Madigan and Cullerton don't own homes in DC doesnt mean they aren't those 1%ers.
