I would be tempted to add some smoked pork product in with the beans or rendered bacon fat. I know, it's bad for you but so good TO you.

Your recipes always inspire me to go to the store and cook something JAP. TBH as I get closer to home I get lazy and fall back on peanut butter on toasted sourdough and ice cold milk because i'm too tired to go through the trouble.
Added some pork of some sort to the list...TBD what it might be.

I love baked beans with pork (belly or bacon) and molasses.

How did it end up turning out? Gosh time passes by so fast that was already two months ago.

If you want to turn that same pot of beans into chili you can do that too. I put the same salt and garlic and same amount of beans, but I replace some of the pintos with some red and kidney beans, but it will still be at least 60% pintos. But you can use any beans you want. I also add chili powder and some chili oil. After the beans have been cooking for three hours I add some diced onion, bellpepper, and celery, and some romas quartered. Then I let it continue to cook for another 5 hours. It is really good.

Have a bowl handy when you add the vegetables you will need to take some of that liquid out. But don't toss it. As the water evaporates while cooking you will be able to add it back to the crock pot later. :)

I dont add any meat to mine but you sure could. It would be really good.

We talked about the chili angle also.
It's about the chili time of year again.

I bought a 3 QT instant pot so I can try some bean recipes.
