New Florida Law to Allow Emergency Responder to Carry Firearms in “High-Risk Incident

The new law will allow the first responders to carry a firearm in situations such as hostage situations or an armed suicidal person, as well as shootings and drug raids. Medical professionals carrying firearms are required to complete annual firearm safety training and tactical training. The law will go into effect on July 1st.
Florida joins Ohio and Kansas in having similar laws on emergency responder firearms. Similar bills have also been proposed in Tennessee, Mississippi and Virginia

I remember that after Katrina, a group from Arizona went to New Orleans to aid in rescue and recovery efforts, and one of the people, an active LEO, carried a shotgun to protect the group. The local police refused to let him do so, and from what I heard at the time they were disarming pretty much everyone except the looters and other criminals - that would have been too dangerous.

Ambulance crews and firefighters are routinely robbed, attacked and shot at in certain neighborhoods. I hate to say it - because it's so very un-PC and everyone knows how hard we liberals work to be PC - but I can already hear the cries of "Racism!" arising from this new law in Florida.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” - Robert E. Howard

"Only a rank degenerate would drive 1,500 miles across Texas and not eat a chicken fried steak." - Larry McMurtry

The racism claims started prior to the law being enacted unfortunately. The situation is that too many emts and firefighters were being harmed in the process of trying to help others. Its a hard enough job to begin with to run into burning buildings and help people at accident scenes etc. Then have to watch your back takes much away from those that need it.

Its truly sad they have to create a law like this
