Pitbulls are like any other breed of dog. It's all in how you train them. At one time in history people had pitbulls to watch over their children. They called them nanny dogs. I've had pitbulls all my life and in my opinion they are the best dogs out there. My wife used to be terrified of pitbulls because of the BS she has heard but never had any experience with them. Now she calls her(my) pitbull her baby. He is her shadow and I never have to worry about anyone coming on my property without her knowing. People that are afraid of any particular breed of dog are equivalent to racists. Ignorance comes in all forms obviously.

Chows are unpredictable. So are Shiba Inus. Mean and unpredictable. But their owners love them.

I had a badly injured pit bull come to my door. He actually banged on it with his paw. He was in pain from being slashed. Someone tried to cut off his ears. He was covered in paint. I let him in where he laid down amongst the cats and slept for 48 hours solid. I got him patched up and found him a family. Five kids two of them under five. Doggo was in 7th heaven. Kids pulling his tail, biting his ears, laying all over him. He was smiling ear to ear. Never had a problem. The mom took him running with her and never had a problem with anyone on the road.

Pit bulls have an enormous smile that can light up the whole room.

They aren't like any other breed of dog. Yes, they can be well tempered and gentle. However they are not a breed of dog you can trust. Those who leery of pit bulls are not the equivalent of a racist. That comment was just plain nonsense.

For as much negative info put out on pit bulls. There is an equal amount of positive info. My son saved a pitbull from some mopes that wanted to fight her. She loves my son and it shows. My son also has a Boxer and 2 cats. The pitbull who he calls Mama. Does just that with the other pets. Mama's them and lays with them. She is a good dog and takes care of those around her.

She also knows those that come around my son and if they are good people or not. Those that are, she is real friendly with them. Those that aren't. She is not and stands guard and being happy she always seems to be smiling now. His girlfriend also calls her. My baby and the dog knows it.

The Blurred Reality of Pit Bulls. The media has always had a “love to hate” affair with one dog or another for over a century, and pit bulls were soon dragged into the spotlight. In the past, it had been a variety of dogs, from the Bloodhound and Newfoundland to, more recently, the Doberman pinscher

We have a pair of 60-65 lb. pit mixes. One is highly suspicious of strangers in the house, but is fine with everybody out in the world; she insists on sleeping with her back against the front door, which no one ever trained her to do. The other just wants to love on every person she sees. Both are buddies with our five cats. More patient, loyal, silly creatures I can't even imagine. But I have no doubt that if either of them ever saw a member of her family attacked or threatened, she would come unglued.

A couple of months ago, a smaller dog came up aggressively, snarling and snapping, at my wife while she was walking one of them, and our dog kept the smaller animal at bay without hurting it - though if the attack had continued, she might very well have resorted to using her teeth and jaws, which I've seen her use to strip the hide off a baseball.

I have a female relative who has been a mail carrier for almost twenty years, has made friends of all the pit bulls and other dogs on her route, and in all that time has only been seriously attacked once - on the day before Christmas several years ago, by a black Lab.
