Phoenix mayor apologises after police threaten to shoot black family

Wasn't a big deal and not much there to see. So let's make a huge national incident out of it.

"Racism Alert!" to cell phones all over the country.

Ummm, they threatened to shoot them for shop lifting? How the hell can you defend that? This wasn't wrong because they were black, it was wrong because they were people.

Threatening to kill them was over the top, they should have just ordered them out of the vehicle

The video I saw the father was already out of the vehicle and being detained and the one cop threatened the mother who was unable to comply with orders to put her hands up because she was holding a baby and another kid. The cop was over the top but, looking at it from his view, he had no idea who it was and why they refused to comply.

No, it is not. It was a local issue. I don't really care, myself. I don't want to get into who is more abusive, cops or blacks, because blacks are what they are, but you're unfair to everyone.

I guess you could say its a local issue, but its big deal. Those cops should be fired. No city or county should have dumb-asses like them policing the streets.

Some here in Phoenix are offering all sorts of excuses and justifications for the cops' behavior - the parents "fled" the police, the parents were shoplifting and threw what they'd stolen out of the car window, the mother refused to put the baby down (on the hot pavement)...even the fact that the kids were not in car seats, "enraging the officers" by their irresponsibility - but none of those things, separately or cumulatively, excuses what the cops did. Pointing a gun at a woman holding a baby and with a small child at her feet, screaming obscenities, sweeping a handcuffed man's feet out from under him because the officer thought he saw the man "tense up his arms", etc....they were completely out of control.

I have read the police report and the most telling thing about the incident is the fact that the scene it depicts in no way resembles what the cameras record. The cops I know well and deal with on a daily basis are, to a man, disgusted and embarrassed by this. The officer who wrote the report is guilty of lying, both actively and by omission, about what went down out there. I'm not investing a lot of faith in the police chief to deal with those officers like they need to be dealt with, because she has been guilty of lying, herself, in justifying police excess and misbehavior.

A four year old child snatching a doll without her mother's knowledge does not justify that response by the officers.


Based on what I've read and seen about this, I'd like to see those officers fired.

They could be hired right out of liberal arts colleges where kids are trained in everything PC.
