Biden decries America's 'wealth gap' at $2,800-a-head Manhattan fundraiser

    I have to laugh

Former Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday expressed concern about income inequality to a group of donors paying $2,800 to attend an event at a Manhattan law firm.

"The fact of the matter is, you represent a lot of really good people, you represent a lot of people in need, you represent everybody," Biden told the room of roughly 100 people, each of whom gave the maximum allowed for individual campaign contributions. "But here's the deal: This wealth gap that exists in the United States of America is so profound now, it is the stuff of which — not revolutions but political disillusionment — occurs. Disillusion occurs."

The fundraiser, held at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton, & Garrison LLP, was Biden's second during his current tour in New York this week. Former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who headed the Justice Department during the final two years of the Obama-Biden administration, is a current partner at the firm.

Biden's campaign has a second event scheduled Tuesday afternoon at another law firm, Weitz and Luxenberg, P.C.

"I know the press is, want to say, there's nothing can be done, that Biden's thinking in the past, Biden used to be able to get things done in the Congress, and as vice president ... but it can't happen again," Biden continued. "Well folks if that's true, we're finished. We're in deep, deep trouble. It means we've come off the rails."
