Oh I agree. I don't think we should get involved in most foreign conflicts. Saddam served a valid purpose even after he made the mistake of trying to invade Kuwait. He was a useful counterbalance to Iran's power in the region. Removing him was a huge mistake strategically.

If they are being stupid and short sighted, that's on them, but all that foreign sanctions accomplish is to make those who are on the fence dig in their heels and continue to support the bad government because it's their's. It's like having relatives that you can't stand but only the family can criticize them. If an outsider does, the family circles the wagons.

To an extent, although sanctions have been used in a lot of situations. Some have been effective. Others not so much.
For example, when most of the world pushed for sanctions against apartheid South Africa, it eventually worked. South Africa eventually ended their apartheid.
Would you have been against sanctions in that scenario?
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

South Africa was a different sort of issue. You had a minority population of Europeans who created a human rights crisis on the basis of race. Blacks had no voting rights, thus no ability to change the government short of bloody revolution. That's a situation where others should step in.
