    Yeah, maybe I'll pick up fresh bread a couple times and make an ass kicking hot turkey sandwich at work. Maybe I'll buy a bag of those reduced fat Cape Cod potato chips. I'll have it sliced with vegetables a couple times and that I guess will be it. I'll split the cost with my roommate. The turkey will be about $16-$18 so half that and whatever the fresh vegetables cost.

    I like asparagus. I steam it and add various spices. I try to cook it the day that I buy it.

    Turkey, I can do without. Get a Cornish hen instead. Brush it with olive oil, and coat it with paprika salt and pepper.

    I boil it for about 30 seconds. I like my vegetables crunchy. Yeah, it's good with extra virgin oil but I fnd that butter cuts through the sharpness of asparagus a little better.

    Yeah, a little cornish hen might be fun.

    Grilling it is the way to go. When that's not possible steaming or lightly roasted (to keep the crunch).

    Nigga, please. There is nothing wrong with boiling a vegetable if it's only in the water for a few seconds. It's easy and quick. In fact, depending on the vegetable, you actually get more nutrients from boiled vegetables than you do from raw vegetables. Your body can't break down some cell walls.

    OK, maybe not end of discussion. I know you are correct about some nutrients being more prominent in cooked/steamed veggies:

    "One 2002 study he did (published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry) found that cooking actually boosts the amount of lycopene in tomatoes. He tells ScientificAmerican.com that the level of one type of lycopene, cis-lycopene, in tomatoes rose 35 percent after he cooked them for 30 minutes at 190.4 degrees Fahrenheit (88 degrees Celsius). The reason, he says: the heat breaks down the plants' thick cell walls and aids the body's uptake of some nutrients that are bound to those cell walls.

    Cooked carrots, spinach, mushrooms, asparagus, cabbage, peppers and many other vegetables also supply more antioxidants, such as carotenoids and ferulic acid, to the body than they do when raw, Liu says. At least, that is, if they're boiled or steamed. A January 2008 report in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry said that boiling and steaming better preserves antioxidants, particularly carotenoid, in carrots, zucchini and broccoli, than frying, though boiling was deemed the best. The researchers studied the impact of the various cooking techniques on compounds such as carotenoids, ascorbic acid and polyphenols."

    Interesting stuff. I've heard this many times about tomatoes which is cool because I hate raw tomatoes.

    Take something like a carrot, for example. Your digestive tract can't break that down completely when it's raw. Granted, when you boil a carrot some of the nutrients are lost in the water (not an issue for soups and stews if you eat the broth) but the collapse of the cell walls makes much more of the nutrition available. Just my opinion based on what I've read.

    Cool. I think with your diet you'd be in the clear regardless but for people like the chick who only (mostly?) ate chicken nuggets it could be the difference between life and death!
