    Book Scanner Suggestions

I have done what I can to reduce my book holdings. When I first moved here I had more than 4,000 books. I have around 2,000 today. Many are marked up with colors and with notes in the margins. I would love to find a book scanner that can convert my books to searchable PDFs, to Word documents or to one of the Kindle formats.

I have looked at the CZUR scanners (cost roughly $500). They are made in communist China and appear to send the scanned images back to Communist China.

I would like to scan one or two books per week.

Do any of you have experience with any of the higher quality book scanners?

The 6,000 are all listed and over 10 dollars, I don't list any common books. While I have a good memory and they are on shelf's, some can be a pain to find. I haven't found any good method yet. Right now I am set on vacation. May activate them again soon.

Can you access digital copies of your books at the Library of Congress or some other large collection of works and just donate or sell your collection without the trouble of scanning your books?

I hope to capture the highlights and margin notes. I have been buying Kindle books to replace some of the books I gave away. My Kindle library today contains 6,394 books. I have many old books that are not available as digital or searchable PDFs.

What about going to a copier company to rent a good scanner that can dump it onto a hard drive or a computer? They are remarkably inexpensive and on a lease they'd take it back and upgrade it when it's done.

I will look into it. I plan to scan two books each week.

I have an Epson V600 for scanning paper documents. I have software, as well, to convert ordinary PDFs into searchable PDfs, Word documents and epubs. But not to Kindle.

Do you manually flip the pages after each scan? I would rather un-bind the books and feed the pages into a two-sides of the page capable scanner. But then the original book would be useless to another person.

    Yes. Manual flip.
