The Army's 3rd Cavalry Regiment Earned 60 Combat Badges for Raining Hell Down on ISIS

The artillerymen of the regiment fired more than 5,000 rounds from M777 Howitzers while infantrymen conducted patrols.

Soldiers with the 3rd Cavalry Regiment from Fort Hood, Texas, returned from a deployment to Iraq, Syria, and Kuwait, in February 60 combat badges richer.

Regiment Command Sgt. Maj. Adam Nash told reporters on Wednesday that roughly 30 Combat Action Badges and 30 Combat Infantry Badges were given to "Brave Rifles" soldiers.

"It was a great time to be an artillerymen in the 3rd Cavalry Regiment."

My Father in Law's unit - the 65th Armored Field Artillery Battalion - issued it's post WW2 book titled "Rounds Complete" - They fired 150,916 shells at the enemy.

I used to get annoyed with civilians because they didn't understand the difference between "Repeat" and "Say Again".

I've seen plenty of CIBs, of course, but had never heard of the Combat Action Badge. Apparently it's only been around since 2005.

There was a prior service Army student in one of my Navy 'A' School classes. He'd been an E-6 in the Army and served in Vietnam, so of course his nickname was "Sarge". The Navy had only allowed him to reenter the Service as an E-3.

The first time we saw him in a dress uniform was shortly before graduation, and he was wearing several rows of ribbons, among them the Bronze Star, and his CIB - which is not technically allowed to be worn on a Navy uniform, but most people either aren't aware of that or don't choose to make an issue of it. (His "jump" wings were authorized, because they're identical to the Navy Basic Parachutist Badge.)

Anyway, the school's Master Chief Petty Officer came through the classroom and saw Sarge, walked up to him and said, "You're out of uniform". Nobody said anything for a moment, and then the MCPO pointed to Sarge's rating patch and said, "Go put on a crow" - by which he meant the insignia of a Petty Officer Third Class (E-4). Hard to argue against that.

Yes, the CAB is pretty new. You can't wear both the CIB and CAB (or CMB) so I wear the CIB.
