Black vultures are roosting in Kentucky and eating animals alive

The idiot Congress cares more about vultures than American citizens.

Black vultures are roosting in Kentucky and eating animals alive

They'll devour slimy newborn calves, full-grown ewes and lambs alive by pecking them to death.First the eyes, then the tongue, then every last shred of flesh. And there isn't much defense against black vultures and turkey vultures, both of which are federally protected and cannot be killed without a permit. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 covers all migratory birds, their nests and their eggs, which means that the birds can't be harmed without federal permission. Their nests can only be disrupted, as a deterrent, if there are no eggs or young in them. But as the vultures, which are native to Kentucky, have multiplied in numbers nationally over the last two decades, they have become more of a problem for farmers. Each year, Kentucky farmers lose around $300,000 to $500,000 worth of livestock to these native vultures, according to Joe Cain, commodity division director for the Kentucky Farm Bureau.

They're having problems with this in Colorado as well and although ranchers aren't supposed to be shooting them -- they are.

In Craig, Colorado, residents of the town are actually having them roost in their trees where they make awful noises and messes. And, I guess they smell pretty bad, too. Removing roadkill promptly sometimes encourages them to relocate, but if ranchers leave dead cattle around, they'll settle in for sure. Even afterbirth attracts them.

I had one actually attack my car when I lived in East Tennessee. We drove past a flock feeding on a dead animal and one took exception and starting pecking my car.

It is either code or a dog whistle. When in doubt ask Safety.

    Conspiracy theorists much?

"Black vultures" are not code for anything racist. They are a species of American vulture threatened by global warming.

The Black Vulture is one of the New World’s most common birds. Flocks of hundreds can be seen soaring on hot air thermals from the East Coast of the U.S. all the way south to nearly the southern tip of South America. Audubon’s climate model projects that only 41% of this species' current breeding range will remain stable, even though new suitable area may become available farther north. It’s thought that severe winter temperatures are the main limiting factor in the northward spread of this species, so an average increase in winter temperatures may facilitate their spread north of the Ohio River.

They've been growing in number in recent years -- guess global warming didn't do them in, huh? They will likely soon move off the endangered list.

Until then, it's possible to get a permit to shoot them if they're destroying your livestock.

Well, I really don't care, but that's nice, I guess. If my livestock, I'd probably shoot them too.

Capture a couple, clip their wings, tie them to cords and you might have a backyard garbage disposal.

I'd buy a goat to mow my lawn, but they're illegal in town.

I don't know what that means, but if you have a $1, you can buy a cold can of Pepsi.
