I think measuring economies by numbers is never an accurate indication of any countries quality of life. The figures are too easily manipulated to paint a preferred picture. The picture is then shown to a disgruntled population , to pacify them , and make them feel better.

Germany had the world's 4th largest economy, Russia's isn't in the top 10. PJL, your stats are using PPP standards....purchasing power parity. PPP GDP is used to measure both the economic growth and "living standards" in any country. PPP uses exchange rates to convert one country’s currency into the other's....then PPP uses what they call a 'consistent amount of money' to see how much can be purchased in any country...and make comparisons. Germany's economy dwarfs Russia's.
