I never met him, but he was with the Diamondbacks from 2010 to 2013, and those who met him then say that he was always great with the fans - very approachable and a really nice guy.

He didn't make it to the Majors till he was an old man of 21, in 2012...although he WAS only 17 when he was drafted by the Angels in 2009 and began playing for their Rookie level team. He was traded to the Diamondbacks in 2010 and played in the organization's Minor League system for a few years, pitching in a total of 13 games for the Major League team in 2012 and 2013.

It happens in the military a lot- where people with very active (although may not be totally healthy) drop dead during PT (and it is a lot more than the old senior sergeants. Often times it turns out to be a congenital heart problem that was never caught.

Wasn't there a theory that drinking binges followed by intense football practice in the heat the next day even caused some HS athletes to drop dead?

It happens, but not a lot. It's a rare occurrence.

    Drinking binges contribute to dehydration.
