I decided on and got a dog.

For all those wondering. Got a dachshund. Decided to go small this go around. Female. Definitely a beta dog. Fine by me. Sweet girl. Bonded to me and my son quickly. Still unsure of her surroundings but already navigating the stairs well. Smart but unassuming. Medium energy and low upkeep. Small dog but big personality.

She is super sweet. We named her "Snickers".

    And yes. Purebred.

By the way definitely will train her to do what she is bred to do. For me that will be going after the rabbits. She is a mini so it will be specific to rabbits. But I plan on eating some well fed hasenpfeffer.

I knew someone who had a Shetland, and their kids had a Habitrail full of gerbils. The people were all in the kitchen one day and they heard their dog barking in the living room. The gerbils had gotten out and the dog was running around in a circle "herding" them.

The beast will also keep gophers and badgers away too.

Tiny dogs, but in a tunnel they are a real jerk to deal with.

An ancillary benefit to me eating the grass fed rabbits that inhabit the neighborhood. I'm sure the neighbors like them. The cute cottontails frolicking around eating their plants. I love them too. When I put them on the BBQ. Can't shoot them so here I am with the perfect dog to serve them up fresh.

    lol

I had gerbils, hamsters, and guinea pigs. They were much better quality than the local WalMart so that store bought from me. My dogs were protective of them.

I prefer them in a stew.

We currently have a coyote infestation, and the rabbits are all but gone around here.

Here's a pic of one of the "yotes" I got on a trail cam the other day. He looks like a big un.
