I have a Doberman pincer now who’s 14 years old. His physical health is deteriorating. He needs meds to survive. He’s happy and has a good quality of life right now. I know he’s not going to make it much linger. When the time comes to put him down, it’s going to be tough. So tough that he’s the last dog I’ll ever have. I can’t deal with putting them down any more.

That is Dexter and Cash. Rescues. We lost Sam two years ago Sept. that tore the kids up because she was the same thing that Captain talked about. Grew up with them all.

Dex is a stray we captured LoL. He is Cashís new running mate. Both smart both good dogs. We miss Sam tho. Your Max struck a nerve because the FB memory today was Sam and Cash up in my chair from 2 years ago.

I hope Max gets better. Sam was blind her last 3 for 4 years with the same. But she adjusted and you couldnít tell. I think she could see blurry bigger things. Just zero detail.

We lost our other friend, Chuggers, two years ago. It was tough.
Once Jake passes we're also not going to go through that again.
I get way too attached and emotional.
Good luck with you and your friend.

It is not easy. But there comes a time when it is compassionate. We had to put our last dog down, however the reason we didn't get a puppy was because we didn't want to be tied to the house

Compassionate or not, it’s still difficult.

Just thought I'd share something with everyone.
This is especially helpful to older dogs, and cats maybe.

We put Jake's water and food dishes on small footstools to raise it to his chest level. He has balance problems and his back legs are giving out. It makes it much easier as he doesn't have to lean forward so far. And with his back legs going bad he many times sits down to eat. It works very well. We also put some of those no slip shelving things on the stools to keep the dishes from slipping.
