I took the Pepsi Challenge when I was in high school, I picked Coke, I knew which was which because the Coke was warm and flat, while the Pepsi was cold and bubbly, take that corporate America BTW, Marlboros are better...

If I wanted Pepsi I would have bought Pepsi.

If you can't taste the difference between a Sprite and a Coke you should probably get checked out.

It tasted more surgery and a bit less carbonation. Like Pepsi. It sucked.

    That's right, it did.

If I remember correctly, the last time I had a soda was about 30 years ago in a buffet restaurant. It was root beer and I put some ice cream in it. (I was never in the habit of buying soda to bring home.) Around that time I began seriously studying health and nutrition, and now that I know what I know I just stopped consuming all such processed foods.

I'm not in the habit either. I very rarely drink soda and then only ginger ale but again...if you can't taste the difference between a Sprite and a Coke you should get checked out. You might be low on heme iron.

Okay, let's put it this way, if I were at sea, adrift on a life raft, and didn't have anything to drink for several days, I would choose Coke if given the choice.

Coke screwed up big time. They didn't sucker in any Pepsi drinkers, they lost Coca-Cola drinkers.

Their effort to back-pedal was lame and fooled no one.

Great article, DG...thanks for bringing it to my attention!

My favorite line: "It’s fun to be cranky about stupid things. It’s almost the entire point of Twitter."

I remember trying "New Coke" at the time and thinking it tasted a bit like flat Pepsi. I always assumed, before reading the article, that the entire thing was just the Coca Cola people trying to get people to buy huge lots of the old stuff and hoard it - which I actually remember some people doing. Some folks even believed that the old Coke was going to be "a collector's item" in the future.

My current soda addiction began back in the '90s when I came out of a ballgame to find probably a dozen large jacuzzi-sized containers filled with ice and bottles of something called "Pepsi Max", free for the taking. Something free almost always tastes better than something you have to pay for, right? So I filled up a cloth shopping bag with bottles and took them home for me and the family, mostly for me. And...I was hooked. To tell a bit of a story on myself - when they changed the name to Pepsi Zero Sugar in 2016, I actually called the customer service number on the can to be reassured that it was going to be the same stuff.

Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” - Robert E. Howard

"Only a rank degenerate would drive 1,500 miles across Texas and not eat a chicken fried steak." - Larry McMurtry
