Why can't the Army do the job. The Marines in Afghanistan aren't doing anything naval nor when they were in Iraq.

    Just a curiosity question.

Legit question. If we did not depend on foreign oil and stopped patrolling the seas except for our own waters how would our homeland be effected?

This scares the living shiit out of me on so many levels. Wow.

    1) We don't depend on foreign oil. We are today the largest producer of oil and refiner of oil products. Wow.
    2) Who would keep free trade sea lanes open, sea lanes we do rely on for a healthy economy and your grand lifestyle. Wow.

Our economy and the international economy depends on free trade and the open seas.

The US still imports over 70% of it's crude for processing into exported oil products. The danger in a major ME war would be the crippling of the global economy , which would adversely effect the US economy.

I don't think the Army wants the job.

Trade in general. Why focus on oil?

    1) Then why do we still import so much? Why do we still claim vital interest in the burned out ME? Have exxon and BP left the region? LOL
    2) BS, as I have said before. Any TRUE superpower can provide for it's own needs. I hate to shatter your Marvel comic view of us but if we withdrew the world would still trade. As would we. For NON-STAPLES.
