Doc I dont really understand what you are trying to convey with this film. First its from the 50s and not only police but every facet of everyones lives and jobs are different.

If you noticed the woman with obvious mental issues was taken away by mental health attendents, they do not exist anymore.
When I was a very young Leo we called ahead and were met at the hospitals door by attendents, that no longer exists either.

Lastly, if you saw a training film made "recently" it would be picture perfect also, none of them reflect real life or even close.

I said I dont know what you were trying to convey but its not like that hasnt been for decades and will never be again

Almost all commissions don't carry the "To protect and serve" logo and haven't for years.

Actually, I was pointing out that they were certainly suggesting that it's possible to take a knife wielding person with mental issues into custody without shooting them. They even made the point that unfortunate things happen when you don't call for backup. The film was made in 1960. Mentally disturbed people with knives haven't changed since then, just the attitude of police officers.

I've never understood the rush to wrap it up. Why not just wait it out.

Sometimes it's possible, and sometimes it's not. Every situation is different. I don't think cops should be forced to put their life on the line to save a knife wielding attacker. Why should they? Are you aware a knife wielding attacker can cover 21 feet before you can get your gun out and put shots on target? And that's if you're well trained.

I watch badge cam footage just about every day, and even when less lethal means are deployed, they don't always work. Here's one that was an extremely close call for the officers. They made every effort. What would you have them do?

How do you "wait it out" when the attacker rushes you?

    You don't.

How many times, though, have we seen where they could've waited it out.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, or a contrarian but, with all due respect, can you provide some examples?
