Love of country

Question: If a male friend were to state, "I really would love my wife, if only she would lose 40 pounds, become less of a nag, and do the housework more often," would you conclude that he really does love his wife? Or not?

Likewise: If a person were to state, "I really would love this country, if only it would live up to the ideals (or values) contained in the Constitution," would you conclude that he really does this country, as it currently exists? Or merely that he is in love with some idealized image of this country?

It does seem like a reasonable question...

Neither question cuts to the heart of the issue. I don't think it's a matter of loving either the country as it exists or an idealized version. You have 4 "women of color" who have been raised to perceive American society as an obstacle. It permeates their politics. They look upon America with resentment. This is astonishing to many of us considering the opportunities this country offers never mind the fact that these oppressed women who "will not be silenced" speak from the House floor and press conferences.

Name a perfect country, it doesn't exist, spouses are not perfect either. I am thankful my children, me, my parents, grandparents and even their parents were born in the US.

You don't stop loving the country and it's people. What you want to change is the government and accepting the status quo is to NOT do your civic duty.

I am a US Citizen. Given the lack of help for people with disability, it can be impossible to feel any loyalty to USA.

Maybe he should ask why his relatives don't help. That is where it originates: Family.
