Yes, as well as the fact that really big profits only happen when people are paid far less than they are worth. The problem is that we convince people that their labor isn't worth much. There is no way that a CEO's compensation is worth 800 times that of the average worker but that is part of the meritocracy in America and the UK. Not so much in Europe where the multiplier is 8 to 1.

However to retrieve the essence of the topic - there are fewer smokestacks in America because most of that kind of industry has gone offshore and is happily polluting third world countries. Polluting behavior in America ultimately became very expensive - lawsuits up the ying yang and an incremental rise in insurance premiums, along with significant exclusions to coverage.

I thought they would be celebrating the blackout. Think of how much it reduced their carbon footprint.

Has Coumo learned nothing from NYC's five-hour blackout last Saturday? The market will handle it because the market encourages competition and entrepreneurship in the form of new safer, more affordable technology.

The market tells me that my labor for my skill set is worth about $70 per hour. It's fair compensation. I don't care what the CEO of a client makes.

The problem is that we are at an economic crossroads. We do have to be mindful of destroying the environment - we are not divorced from it. At the same time, capitalism is only working for some people but not for everyone. Then on top of it all we have technology that is replacing jobs and part of the reason for the disparity between production and wage growth. We cannot continue to let industries like almond tree agriculture to suck the aquifers dry and the monoculture of industrial farms will eventually render agricultural America sterile. Capitalism is not saving the environment, it's destroying it.

Nice opinion but you're not talking about capitalism if you think it was invented and needs government. Do continue off-topic as if your habit.

The topic remains capitalism and not government solving problems.

How old are you? This is a legitimate question, because older workers are often in a different economic stream than younger workers.

It does need government. It's joined at the hip. You've conveniently changed your tune.

You can't state that capitalism is the reason for fewer smokestacks without introducing capitalism as a topic. It's your own fault. Own it.
