Both fascist and National Socialist were collectivist and statist. Mussolini himself, the found of the Fascist Party stated, "Everything for the State, Nothing outside of the State" The very word fascist is derived from the Latin for a bundle of sticks which when bundled are far stronger than any individual stick may be. Neither Hitler nor Mussolini were believers in autarky, which is a belief in the responsibility of the individual for his own well being and does not rely on outside sources. Neither were communist and saw trade unions as communist organizations.

“Everything in the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State.” Benito Mussolini’s formulation remains one of the most enduring definitions of modern totalitarianism. Italy’s Fascist regime was the first to declare itself totalitarian, and it envisioned a radically new social order engineered by the state

It amazes me how ill informed some posters can be about simple historical facts.

All socialist and fascist regimes eventually become tyrannical dictatorships because that is the only way to force the individual to adhere giving up his own self interest.
Who said fascists were pro-capitalism? That seemingly came out of nowhere.

"For the state" and "for the people" are two different connotations when comparing fascism to socialism. Fascism, especially the Nazi party, who did btw allow selective private economic operation, has been well defined as extreme right wing.

Regardless of the fringe attempt to redefine them.

Actually, the association of fascism with capitalism is a common anachronistic argument of the left. It's in part misuse of corporate as Mussolini meant it to imply corporate corruption of government, which is also wrong. And it's in part the misuse of capitalism as Lenin used it and influenced Mussolini, see http://thepoliticalforums.com/thread...=1#post2656865,

This is an interesting discussion when it's not personal. Thanks guys.
