Drug addiction is a medical problem, not a crime. It's time for government policy to reflect that.

That's the point of ending drug prohibition. By the way, the concept of a "recreational" drug is entirely arbitrary. All drugs can be used for recreational purposes.

People do self-medicate, so I get your point, but for the most part people use drugs to somehow alter their moods, their reality or to relax or feel more energized. Recreational is simply an easy category for any drug that isn't medicinal, so to speak.

True; but the welfare state had already destroyed the family unit so their were displaced males who needed something to do. Perhaps that was the CIA's plan all along.

All drugs have "medicinal" properties. And often times, the distinction between "medicinal" and "recreational" is nonexistent. Scientifically speaking, such designations have little or no basis.

There was a very good chance that there would be both an ample customer base of the depressed as well as those who desperately needed money. The aspect of welfare that destroyed the family unit was the rule that there could be no adult male living in the home.

I didn't say they were more prone to abuse. I said drug prohibition needed to end. Two entirely different arguments. Because most of the gun crime in the US is related to the black market for drugs. Ending drug prohibition would go a long way to solving that problem, just like it did when we ended alcohol prohibition in 1933.

"E" haven't we reminded you not to contribute fact and reason to the "drugs are the devil" argument? But since you have done so I must agree. Prohibition causes more death and destruction than it stops by a wide margin. But hey, big pharma and booze and tobacco are happy and the argument continues to serve as a destruction from the horrible fiscal mismanagement of our country, just as it has for decades.

My response was to the idea that gangs have full auto guns. I never said they were not responsible for the bulk of shootings, but that they are primarily using hand guns. I read somewhere that only 18% of all recovered guns used in crimes were in the possession of their registered owner. That's not surprising since 500K guns are stolen every year. My issue is not keeping guns out of the hands of the law abiding, it's how to keep them out of the hands of the wrong people.

I'm not the wrong person. Why do you think I have to have my right restricted?
