Houthis claim major drone operation near the UAE

Yemen’s Houthi insurgents claimed a major drone strike operation today inside Saudi Arabia near the border with the United Arab Emirates.

According to the insurgents, ten drones struck the Saudi Shaybah oil field that borders the UAE. A spokesman for the Houthis stated that the oil field was targeted as it is “among the largest strategic stockpiles of the Kingdom.”

@PJL how would Australia handle it if a rebel army launched drones over Australian borders targeting your oil reserves and stockpiles, trying to purposefully set off mass explosions.

@Ethereal how would the autonomous Kurds handle it if Iran or Iraq or Russia or Turkey or Syria who all vehemently oppose Kurdish independence(you and John Bolton the only two I know of in support of an independent 'Kurdistan') were launching drones into Kurdish territories targeting their supplies of crude oil?

@donttread this isn't US backed chaos in the region just creating more terrorists. Down the road, when you start to blame this on any kind of US necessary intervention....I'll be quick to remind you of the chaos happening as we exchange.

@Peter1469 This is of national security interest to us, Peter. We do have an interest in outcomes in this civil strife. These are Shi Houthi, yes I get the ages old conflict responsible for most of this.....but it is vital we keep a close monitor on developments. And act accordingly. Houthis are attacking Red Sea shipping. These drone strikes purposeful provocations and if Saudi Arabia responds, our membership here and national media will descend into the vapors. We must keep commerce flowing, any attacks against ships of the US or our allies.....and we're going to have to intervene? Yes?

The Neocons have lifted up the eye patch and have Yemen on watch. We must retain a heavy presence in the region and protect international shipping if necessary.

US concern in Yemen is Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Intelligence agencies in the West agree they are the most dangerous transnational terrorist organization with many talented bomb makers.

The House of Saud can handle the rebels or be replaced by someone who can.

The US Navy already has the mission to protect shipping past the shores of that $#@!-hole.

Australia has been guilty at times of interfering in other countries affairs ( case in point : when ASIO installed audio spying equipment in the East Timor governments conference room , to gain knowledge prior to negotiations regarding the shared Sunrise gas basin in the Timor sea) . This was a black day of shame for Australia , because the people of Timor Lest , one of the poorest countries in the South Pacific , were duped in the negotiations . I support Timor Leste totally in their quest to get justice over this . The Australian government did this on behalf of the Woodside Petroleum Company , which are just another global energy parasite. These (far too common)incidents usually are always perpetrated on small , almost defenceless countries by bigger countries , which amounts to a gutless act of cowardice by more powerful countries. Timor Leste got their justice with the re-negotiation of the royalties deal for Greater Sunrise , through diplomatic means and a court case at The Hague International dispute court . The Government of Timor Leste have now lifted so many out of poverty and improved the lives of their people because of it........If Saudi Arabia did not have the coup to install a puppet government , in an attempt to get control of Yemen , I doubt the Houthi would even exist.
