What's the Best Indoor Temperature for your Home?

According to the new Energy Star recommendations -- it's 78-degrees F during the day and 82-degrees at night.

On Monday, Jennifer Titus, a local news anchor from 10News WTSP, tweeted a seemingly innocent question and temperature recommendations from Energy Star, a federal program run by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy. According to Energy Star, you should set your thermostat to 78 degrees while you’re at home, 85 degrees when you’re not, and 82 degrees while you’re sleeping for “optimal” energy efficiency.

How many of you would be comfortable at those temps?

Why do you suppose Energy Star is going down this path?

I think that's pretty common. I can do between 72 and 75 easily. I doubt I could sleep well at 82.

Me either................If I wanted 82 year round, I'd have to keep moving from one area to another.

72 during the day and it drops to 70 and 68 at night to keep the upstairs cool enough to sleep.

People find it difficult to sleep when it's hot and muggy. Why toss and turn all night? I think your choice of temperatures is probably shared by many.

So true. A higher dew point makes it feel stickier.

    A popular choice, I'm sure.

A better choice than what Energy Star is promoting.
