What does it mean to be Woke? I'm not a racist, so what is this story line that I keep hearing about? Are others asking me to claim I'm something I'm not? I don't have to think about that.

Just more gutter slang. I ignore it.

As the term is used here on this forum -- the only place I've ever heard (read) it -- it has been used in a derogatory sense. You say I "might be ashamed" but that's all you say. You don't explain why.
If, as you say, the term has deeper meaning, then you probably ought to go after those who are misusing it or using it poorly, as you say. Because, from a reader's standpoint, I can only ascertain the meaning based on the context.
I will look it up...
Okay from Merriam Webster:
So, it is slang. I was correct in that.Woke is a slang term that is easing into the mainstream from some varieties of a dialect called African American Vernacular English (sometimes called AAVE). In AAVE, awake is often rendered as woke, as in, “I was sleeping, but now I'm woke.” 'Woke' is increasingly used as a byword for social awareness.
Words mean something, and in an age when our high schools are graduating students who are barely literate, I should think adults would encourage the correct use of the English language, rather than condone a vernacular that makes people seem uneducated.
I know kids come up with all sorts of terms that catch on with their generation, but this one doesn't sound good.
