...a rose by any other name.....is still a felon.
I think it cute they think calling someone by another name will change anything.
I think it even cuter Tucker Carlson thinks they have some kind of power over language.
The word WOMAN is still only spelled womYn in some colleges only. No where else.
Gender pronouns are an integral part of the English language everywhere it is spoken.
Felons, drug addicts, and juvenile delinquents are still called that, even in Frisco.
Sorry, Tucker. I greeted your report on this with a yawn.

I don't see how changing the label is going to change the fact that having a record is going to impede your ability to get a job. The fact is that whoever is carrying the label either has judgment problems or is a sociopath (notwithstanding the possibility of some sort of mental or emotional disorder). That makes them a greater risk factor as an employee and no one is going to PC their way out of that practical reality.

Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

I don't believe it should. I say mete out the punishment for a criminal and when he's done his time -- it's over. The punishment should cease, which is why the "convicted felon" label should also cease. We operate from a position of fear, yet it's that very fear that excludes ex-prisoners from successfully reentering society and increases the recidivism rate.
If we're afraid a specific criminal will commit another crime, such as a child molester, make his initial punishment longer. But, don't send him out in the world fated to fail because he has a label over his head. Registering for a sex-offender registry won't keep him from re-offending, he'll just travel elsewhere to commit a crime or duck out of sight. What he won't do is get a job and become a productive member of society. There's no reward in it for him.
There's a thing called Ban the Box, and it's gaining momentum. One of my clients, Koch Industries, adopted it back in 2015 and other employers have as well. When you apply for a job at Koch Industries, you will not find a question about whether you are a convicted felon on the application.
It's a step in the right direction.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...ions/26325929/WICHITA — Koch Industries, one of the nation's largest private companies, has removed questions about prior criminal convictions from its job applications, becoming the latest corporation to join a burgeoning movement trying to make it easier for ex-offenders to find work.
