I think of "Bob" and "Ed" as being, in most cases, abbreviations, rather than something a guy would actually be named; I'm sure a lot of babies still get named Robert and Edward.

A lot of the female names - Blanche, Beulah, Gertrude, Velma, Nettie - yeah, those really ARE some old-fashioned names. Unless you had a rich older relative you were trying to butter up, I can't see anyone calling their kid one of those. I had a Grandma Bessie, but she was born in about 1906.

I'm a little surprised not to see my daughter's name on the list - "Margaret". It's a tradition in my wife's mother's family to name the oldest daughter either "Mary" or "Margaret" in alternating generations. She has gone by her middle name since she was about 12.

These are names. Nothing more nothing less. They don't define their owners nor do the indicate anything about the individual.

Of course... Nowadays there are names in the U.S. that are utilized on the basis of racial identity. Sad.
I find your lack of faith...disturbing...

Some of those like Bob is actually Robert, Ed is Edward, Willie is William, ect. I have seen many Vickies. I noticed the names of my grandparents and their sisters and brothers are now coming back. Don't think they actually ever die out, even seen a couple of Boazs.

I see a lot of Crystals and Tiffanys - women in their twenties and thirties - each spelled about a half a dozen different ways.
