NYPD Wants Waze to Stop Warning People About DWI Traps

    https://www.popularmechanics.com/tec...aze-dwi-traps/

Police are upset that the app is warning drivers about upcoming checkpoints where cops are checking for drunk drivers, and they're asking the Google-owned app to knock it off.

Ann Prunty, acting deputy commissioner for legal matters for the NYPD, said this:
“This letter serves to put you on notice that the NYPD has become aware that the Waze Mobile application, a community-driven GPS navigation application owned by Google LLC, currently permits the public to report DWI checkpoints throughout New York City and map these locations on the application. Individuals who post the locations of DWI checkpoints may be engaging in criminal conduct since such actions could be intentional attempts to prevent and/or impair the administration of the DWI laws and other relevant criminal and traffic laws."

    You are wrong about police.

    What's your opinion, Helena?
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

    DUI Checkpoints should be avoided.

Should I infer from this you think driving drunk is OK?

No. Should I infer from your line of questioning that you think stopping and detaining people, demanding their ID, shining ostentatiously bright lights in their faces and being general $#@!s when no reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed is OK?

Well, yeah. These roadblocks are legal, generally speaking. People aren't detained at DWI stops. Well, some are but they're drunk. Anyway,
I don't worry much about them because only irresponsible $#@!s drive drunk. How about you?

Honestly, I think DWI limits should be higher and the intent of these roadblocks is obvious but whatever. Cops suck! Gestapo agents! Yeah, this sort of rhetoric will result in change.

Like much of modern policing, DUI checkpoints are primarily intended as a form of social control and revenue generation.

Meanwhile, there are literally thousands of unsolved murders and rapes and assaults that police barely bother investigating.

So forgive me if I don't view these arbitrary and unlawful checkpoints as a form of legitimate social order.
Power always thinks it has a great soul, and vast views, beyond the comprehension of the weak. And that it is doing God service when it is violating all His laws.

How many other "legalities", "generally speaking" that shouldn't have passed Constitutional muster do you agree with?
