Great euphemisms that never really took off

In 2009, when South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford (R) claimed to have been "hiking the Appalachian Trail" while actually engaging in an extramarital dalliance with a woman in Buenos Aires, I fully expected the the phrase "hiking the Appalachian Trail" to become the hot euphemism for such activity.

"Yeah, Donnie was supposed to be at some conference in Dallas, but I happen to know he was really, um uh, hiking the Appalachian Trail in Yuma."
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” - Robert E. Howard

"Only a rank degenerate would drive 1,500 miles across Texas and not eat a chicken fried steak." - Larry McMurtry

I thought I was aware of every Southern euphemism but when Lawton Chiles was running for re-election and losing in the polls he came up with "The He-Coon hunts at night". What transpired was a push poll of his minions calling Florida retires and asking them if they knew if the Republican was elected their social security checks would be reduced and homestead exemption would end.

To me, The He-coon hunts at night means underhanded politicians spreading rumors to vulnerable voters.

I also wondered why when De Santis said "Don't monkey up the system" he was accused of being racist but when Chiles said "He-coon" not a peep.

I'm still waiting for "Pull a Smollet," to take its place in today's growing list of euphemisms.

Speaking of great euphemisms...Burgess Meredith in these outtakes from Grumpy Old Men.

"He got kicked right in the Bobbitt" Was very popular when it was topical, now? Not do much...

We are all brothers and sisters in humanity. We are all made from the same dust of stars. We cannot be separated because all life is interconnected.

    Good evening, Mr Lummy!
Being from Memphis and Arkansas brings many stereotypes to the table. Memphis = Music. Arkansas /goat-1596880__480.jpg therefore, I make the distinction. They say the secret to a happy goat remember not to look it in the eye when its yabba dabba do time

I cannot really think of any that never took off. There are old standbyes like " " what a wild day at the office, its going to be midnight oil city sorting this mess out " actually means "wild day, locking front doors ASAP, huge throwdown ("throwdown = party in Dixie). Party peeps enroute , liquor is going to flow in a huge wau
