bummer. one thing I noticed in europe, the slower you go the more you achieve.
Actually, the city is much larger than the part that the tourists visit. The rest of it doesn't have canals. The Venice of tourism is very old and prone to flooding. I was there in October so it didn't stink, but in July and August, it's pretty funky. I liked the catacomb of little lanes and alleyways with tiny shops and restaurants, but it was easy to get lost in there. We (myself and some coworkers) took a gondola ride, because you can't go to Venice and not take a gondola ride. I got some great pictures.

I have been to Italy several times. Rome and Tuscany. I have not been to Venice yet.
