You don't see many aces today because teams went with a 5 man rotation,
and; insisting the pitch counts don't go over 100 to a starter,
AND; Add the fact that every team has relievers that routinely throw 95 MPH or higher!
Virtually all major league players acknowledge that pitching has been watered down through expansion. That's why an ace pitcher is such a rare and valuable commodity.
There were few 90 mph pitchers when I grew up. Most of them can do that now. Today, a power hitter can out any pitch away. Imagine a 180 pound Mickey Mantle today. It home run or bust today.
