CEDAR RAPIDS — Attracted by promises of job creation, infrastructure projects and expanded trade opportunities, more than one-third of American labor union members voted for Donald Trump in 2016.
After nearly three years of what they see as tax cuts for the wealthy, hostile workplace policies and trade wars, Iowa union leaders and rank-and-file members predict Trump won’t get the vote share in 2020 that he scored in 2016.
“There’s a lot of second guessing” among those folks, said Bill Gerhard of the Iowa State Building and Construction Trades.
Many union members voted for Trump “because they didn’t like Hillary Clinton,” Jeff Stephens, a member of Carpenters 308 in Cedar Rapids, said at a Labor Day picnic.
“It won’t be that way this time,” said Richard Julius, a retired Carpenters 308 member from Fairfax. Union members who supported Trump “aren’t talking him up like last time.”

The liberal press embellishs support for socialism, the lionshare of support for socialism is from brainwashed current and recently graduated college kids and those that are convinced they can get alot of stuff free from the rich guys.

Unions and democrats that work and the MANY super rich democrats and all those that benefit and live good lives because of socialism are NOT going to pull the lever for socialism no matter how many times they tell pollsters they are.

Agree on Tulsi. But are you saying unions are socialist? IMO, without unions the worker gets run over. With too strong a union we become fat and lazy, like the auto industry in the 70's. Some things require a balance.
As far as socialism winning, we are nowhere near there yet. But if a large percentage of the country cannot participate in the economy it eventually might.

That answer to that is no. The Democrats are split between socialists on the far left and capitalists in the middle. But even the socialist these days know you need capital to fund their agendas. Mixed messages like that do not win.
