Upstate New York woman mauled to death by her own dogs

No not pitbulls, coonhounds, hunting dogs

A woman in upstate New York died after being mauled by one or both of her pet coonhounds at her home, police said Monday.

Arlene Renna, 67, was found unconscious on her living room floor by her husband around 4 p.m. Saturday, when he got back to their house in Pleasant Valley, state police said.

Renna succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Police said the wounds were consistent with a dog attack.

Both of the coonhounds were taken by the Dutchess County SPCA and a judge will decide what happens to them, cops said.

It’s unclear how long the couple owned the hunting dogs, who are generally “sweet, mellow, sociable,” according to the American Kennel Club.

Details about what may have prompted the attack weren’t immediately available, but police said they found no evidence of foul play.

That's weird. Two coon hounds killed a grown woman? I wonder if she had disabilities? I wonder what Grisim would find for clues at the scene?

Very unusual. Coonhounds (or black and tan, bloodhound, scenthound, etc) comprise six breeds renown for lazing on the porch next to the moonshiner in his chair with a shotgun in his lap. They are not known as attack dogs.

The one or two that I have met were kind of mean.

Seems something very odd going on here.

    I agree with Lummy^^^^
Maybe she was trying to take food away from them?
Maybe there was a scrap between the two dogs and she tried to intervene?

We'll never know exactly what happened, but I remember someone here saying -- just a few weeks ago -- that it was always pits when the attacks ended in death.

Yeah, that's always a bad idea unless you know what you're doing.

want to break up a dog fight? I have a can of blast alert (air horn) that works every time.
I will also shoot if I have no other choice. Another good reason to own a gun or two.............

She succumbed at the scene. Not yet stinking. Those aren't dogs known for viciousness. Maybe they were drugged.
