Why? I'm not making a claim and using a source to back it up. I'm simply relating that people have questions. My initial post was just a query as to what people thought about it.

I don't understand how WTC7 came down, but I am not a structural engineer. I do understand that impacts can weaken foundations. What I don't believe is that any Americans plotted to take down WTC7. An inside job that like would have been determined very quickly -- but we've had investigations and they've found nothing untoward.

It was a sad day to be sure.

Nope. I want someone to lay out for me what is inappropriate about it. Stating that questions are disrespectful or inappropriate doesn't make it so.

In the post-9/11 world, those who have made such claims, no matter how well-grounded their claims may be, have often been derided and attacked as “conspiracy theorists” for questioning the official claims that the three World Trade Center buildings that collapsed on September 11 did so for any reason other than being struck by planes and from the resulting fires. Yet, it is much more difficult to launch these same attacks against members of a fire department that lost a fireman on September 11 and many of whose members were involved with the rescue efforts of that day, some of whom still suffer from chronic illnesses as a result.

Actually, a common topic of discussion is about whether FDR manipulated the Japanese into attacking. So yes, we do.

On the other hand, you, I and others here have been involved in discussions that arose on patriotic holidays like Memorial Day and Veteran's Day, and inevitably someone - usually, it's just one person, for some reason - will want to interject an often vitriolic commentary on the injustice of America's wars, the glorification of the military, etc. In other words, taking advantage of what ought to be a day of remembrance and perhaps mourning by turning it into an occasion for political and ideological sparring. I see Helena's OP as just another example of that sort of thing, and I stand by my assessment of it as being inappropriate for the day.

That was me who posted the comment in the veterans day thread that was blown out of proportion. I didn't post it for the reasons you are stating. If we cant honor veterans by vowing to end the wars that take their lives then how can we honor them? It is not a day to glorify their deaths, and by proxy glorify war. It is a day to truly honor them. How best can we truly honor their senseless deaths than by working to find ways to prevent any more?

I see Helena's thread as an honest discussion at an appropriate time. When the heck else is it the right time?
