    Obama didn't do too well with approval ratings when compared with Clinton, H. W. Bush, Reagan, Kennedy or Eisenhower. He's popular among his base, but his appeal outside of Democrats is somewhat limited.

    That shows the power of media. If the press is on your side, you usually do better in these kinds of polls. By the same token, if they continually criticize you, you won't do well.
