I suppose that’s a possibility, but we aren’t even close to that now.

Fracking is a a good thing. It’s making us energy independent.

In the 1950's we were told we would all be flying auto cars. The natural gas from fracking was supposed to be one of those alternative fuels the left likes to chatter about. Why is it alternative fuels that will actually work, like natural gas and nuclear power, are attacked by environmentalist? I am not opposed to progress by any means, its the engine that drives our ever increasing economy. But I would like to see the progress actually work and at a lower cost then what exist now. It appears the left is betting on wind and solar power as the salvation of the world yet neither is reliable or less expensive than electricity that derives from coal or natural gas.

Sorry. Welcome to the 21st Century.

    From the conservative Forbes:

In recent years, the world has marched towards renewable energy. According to a new report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), unsubsidized renewable energy is now most frequently the cheapest source of energy generation . The report finds that the cost of installation and maintenance of renewables, which was an important stumbling block to mass adoption, continues on a downward trajectory.
Adding to existing efforts made by governments and businesses, these lower costs are expected to propel the mass adoption of renewables even further. The report further touches on the importance of renewables in sustainable development and the need for governments to help achieve the climate goals of the Paris Agreement, coming just months before the United Nations’ Climate Action Summit being held in Abu Dhabi in September this year.

So a twenty-something kook relies on a propaganda organization to make a false case that wind and solar are cheaper than NG and coal. And you bought it.

    Cool.

I have this bridge I am willing to lease to you for 99 years...Cheap.

Fossil fuels have been the behind the progress we have realized over the last few hundred years. We will never live in a world where this energy source is obsolete. Never.

Nuclear power is the only viable solution to our future energy needs.

Third quarter 2018 we exported 7.5 Million barrels of oil per DAY. So it would appear the fracking industry is making Big oil even richer while ruining water prospects for you and me in the future. IOW we don't need to frack for domestic consumption, it's for sale abroad. https://www.americangeosciences.org/...ort-and-import

You are not a fan of America nor its capitalism. When did you first suspect you might despise the capitalism that gave you succor, nursed you, and allowed you to grow strong in your youth? Where do you believe the wealth came from that allowed you to spend your life as a government worker?

When did you first realize you despised real Americans who worked for a living?

Sorry, Las Vegas Isn't Close To Running Entirely On Renewable Energy

A person visiting Las Vegas can't help but notice that the city consumes a tremendous amount of power. The Vegas Strip is a site to behold at night, but there's a lot of fossil fuel involved in powering those lights

So imagine my surprise when I saw a recent article in Popular Mechanics titled Las Vegas Is Now Powered Entirely by Renewable Energy. If that wasn't clear enough, the subtitle read "Las Vegas is now the largest city in the country to run entirely on renewable energy." (Update: Popular Mechanics now has a clarification; see my footnote at the end).

This claim was repeated in numerous mainstream media outlets, but I immediately knew this couldn't be correct. Although it is true that Las Vegas is installing a lot of new solar power, and the state of Nevada is home to over 500 megawatts (MW) of geothermal power -- the Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that the 3.3 million megawatt hours (MWh) that Nevada generated in September 2016 came primarily (>70%) from natural gas:

Of course that's for the entire state of Nevada, but nearly three-quarters of the state's population lives in or around Las Vegas. With natural gas generating four times the electricity of renewables for the state, it isn't mathematically possible for Las Vegas to be running entirely on renewables. Per EIA data Las Vegas runs primarily on natural gas

While the myth was widely reported, at least one outlet did get it right. Kudos to Quartz, who reported Las Vegas’s city government is now powered by 100% renewable energy. This story accurately reported:

This is a major accomplishment for the Las Vegas city government, but it is important to note that its energy consumption is a tiny fraction of the overall city. To suggest that Las Vegas is running entirely on renewable energy presents an utterly false picture.

Earlier today Popular Mechanics edited the article title and changed the language. But for posterity, here is the way it read for about four days. This version was shared numerous times, and repeated by numerous media outlets:.....snip~

In South Florida its fern and sugar cane growers that are ruining the water supply. In the rest of the country its fracking and golf courses. The pattern here is if it is profitable and makes money for someone then its evil and must be stopped at all cost.
