    Hurt Feelings

I have an idea -- and it's not going to be popular.

Let's see how long all of us can go without insulting another poster. Let's see if we can share our opinions about issues and subjects and not insinuate that another poster is a moron.

Recently, we've seen a lot of members get worked up -- and it's obvious feelings are getting hurt. It's pretty much a given that you have to have a thick skin to be on a forum like this, but try this -- try responding to a poster you don't like by pointing out something good about that poster. Watch how quickly that takes the wind out of their sails, and see how it can change the conversation around.

    Just an idea.

I tried it. It made no difference.
Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.

I attempt to address subjects, not people. It does not seem to be reciprocal, just a constant Republican/Conservative this, or Democrat/Liberal that.... labels, labels, labels. Many don't fit those labels, but it's soooo much easier to slap a label on someone.

I gave way to the general sling-fest in a particular thread.... it turned into a melee.

Meh. I give what I get, even though I'll start out civilly, but I am only human....

I find your posts to be balanced and well-thought-out. You rarely mud-wrestle, but I agree that the urge to do so can be overwhelming at times.

Let's try again -- because you make some wonderfully informative posts, and I want everyone to read them and enjoy them -- rather than attack you based on partisanship.

One problem - among several - is that not everyone seems to define "insult" in the same way - or else they appear to believe that when they do something it's okay, but if someone turns the tables on them and does the exact same thing, they've been insulted. There are members who will go on all day about how the other guy's "posting style" is this or that, and how he or she has a tendency to utilize some fallacious argument or other...but if someone points out something that they do that's wrong or annoying, suddenly you're guilty of an "ad hom". I mean, there's thin-skinned, and then there's ridiculously thin-skinned.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” - Robert E. Howard

Quite often, you really add to the conversation. You bring empathy, concern, and a sense of wanting to make the world a better place. That's appreciated.
