Nationalism is nether extreme nor prejudicial. In fact most people are nationalists and either don't realize it or are afraid to admit it because nitwits try to turn it into a bad word. As one example, I suspect that 95% of people who care root for their national teams at the Olympics and other global sporting events such as the World Cup.
If people believe that abortion is the taking of human life, who are you to call them extreme? Those people probably consider the murder of a human to be extreme. Radical when considering how much they clamor for it.

You asked what conservatives want. This conservative wants a return to a constitutional republic where the federal government is limited by its pre-1936 Constitution. That would shrink the size, scope. power and cost of government to well under a trillion dollars.
