You can also try to talk to the prosecutor before the initial hearing. I was a Special Assistant US Attorney and traffic violations on post were part of the job. I would talk to anyone who wanted to talk and if they had a reasonable position, like the two shared in this thread, I would ask the judge to dismiss the case.
