    33 Best frozen pizzas, ranked

    https://www-thrillist-com.cdn.amppro...rillist-nation

They say there's no such thing as bad pizza, but that hasn't stopped the frozen-food industry from waging a decades-long experiment to disprove that old adage. Still, advances in rising-crust science have forced purveyors to step up their game. We're living in the golden age of frozen pizza, and some are even better than the chains.

I could never do frozen pizza. I think of "frozen" the same way some folks think of Spam.
It's a rare treat when we can hook up the team and take a trip to the city for an fire oven baked homemade pizza.

Frozen pizza is terrible. I make the dough put in in a cast iron skillet on the oven to start browning the bottom. From there add what you want and bake it in oven till done.

No frozen pizza comes close to a well made hand crafted pizza. I do not like Pepperoni on pizza, I actually dont like any toppings and my favorite is a plain slightly well done cheese pizza. I tolerate sausage on pizza but prefer it plain and I do not like thick pizza

I would never eat a frozen pizza. I don't even like most commercial pizza places.

As far as going out to get pizza if you can find a place that uses.. (Wait for it Liberals).. a coal fired oven that is the best. There is a place in PA and South Florida called Anthony's coal fired pizza. It is fantastic. There are different places around the country. In NYC there a a number, but even there it is hard to find a coal fired pizza.

PS here is the web site. It looks like they are expanding abit into NY, MA and some other places. If you are near one of these places you might want to check it out.

The wife buys DiGirono frozen pizzas (#4) and I've grown to tolerate them; one of the problems that I have with it is that, unlike good ristarante pizza, it tastes awful the next day, cold out of the fridge. That's a deal breaker for me. But eat it while it's hot, and it's pretty edible.

Every once in a while, I'll get a craving for the kind of flat, some say cardboard-like pizza that I used to buy, consume and love, in a naive sort of way, in my bachelor days. Tombstone (#27) or Red Baron (#21) (I love that scene in About Schmidt, where the recent widower, played by Jack Nicholson, is grocery shopping, and the voice-over says, "I remembered some tricks from my bachelor days" as he drops a double armload of Red Baron pizzas into his cart.)

I don't think that there is any frozen pizza truly worthy of being called pizza - they are pizza-like foods. In Italy there are pizzas with a thick outer edge, but a thin center and pizzas with a thinner outer edge and a thin center. Anything that is thicker is really focaccia, however even in Italy they are embracing the fusion of the two. Real Italian pizza is almost a flat bread that has a minimum of ingredients, relying on the flavor of the crust, sauce and perhaps one or two other ingredients that are all baked. Focaccia is a bread that is allowed to rise to perhaps an inch and is baked with little other than olive oil and herbs on top and then served with fresh toppings.

The problem with most American pizza is the less than flavorful crusts, sauce that is not all that good, waxy cheese that is called mozzarella but is a poor imitation and a plethora of meat toppings to disguise the fact that the basic underlying pizza isn't particularly good to start with.

Frozen pizza can never really be good because a good crust can't be partially cooked, frozen and then finished in the oven. Imagine buying a partially cooked loaf of bread and then finishing it in the oven. Freezing changes the molecular structure of the ingredients.
