I don't see any abuses in the EC system. We are a republic. When the 13 independent states united to form the United States, they were concerned about the most populous states having too much power and set up the EC to prevent that very thing. It seems that the most populous states now want to rewrite the system. We joined the union with the understanding that the EC protected us from the more populous states. To change it now would necessarily give us an 'opt out', I think.

Election by popular vote, in the same vein, would give more power to those in urban areas over those in rural.

    Gerrymandering
We are all brothers and sisters in humanity. We are all made from the same dust of stars. We cannot be separated because all life is interconnected.

If there is no electoral college there is no reason to remain a nation.
Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.

I pledge allegiance to the Constitution as written and understood by this nation's founders, and to the Republic it created, an indivisible union of sovereign States, with liberty and justice for all.

    It did happen.

Many of our ills today derive from cutting the States out of the legislative process.

I agree. It made the politicians beholden to the national party rather than the local state or state parties.

The 17th Amendment is one of the greatest mistakes made in American history.
