    Making Jesse James

    Making Jesse James

Jesse James got his start in the Confederate Army. This article is about the guerrilla war in the then western part of the conflict. Missouri.

In September 1864, Jesse James rode with Bill Anderson's bushwhackers into the small Missouri town of Centralia. There the 16-year-old James took part in one of the worst atrocities of the Civil War. The Confederate guerrillas executed 22 Union soldiers in what a witness called a "carnival of blood," then ambushed and killed 150 more Federals who set out in pursuit of the guerrilla group.

Also a product of the reconstruction era. That and their large families/local communities is why they were able to go on so long.

they were a result of war and poverty along with hate. the war resulted in a lot of outlaws just as the depression era did.in both eras law enforcement was at a disadvantage due to lack of technology training and restrictive laws .

A few months ago I listened to a couple of podcasts about the James Younger Gang. One of the speakers believed he was the grandson of Jessie James.

Tens of thousands of Missourans fought on each side in the Civil War. With such divided sympathies, it must have been a chaotic, probably treacherous place to live even without the outlawry that took advantage of the confusion. Lots of theives and buried loot about. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/tr...ends-missouri/

There is an excellent portrayal of James by Brad Pitt with Casey Affleck The assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford for those who are interested in a very accurate story.

    Thanks.

Recently I heard a podcast where the topic was that Jessie James lived beyond that and died during the Great Depression.

It is interesting to consider all of these stories of our Wild West past.

Yeah, that's an old myth that somehow survives: kind'a like a ghost town...
