A couple of our cats really love our two adult pitbull mixes. One of them, the big white cat that Gemma has been chewing on since they were both small, tries to cuddle with Lily, but Lily gets embarrassed or paranoid or something and moves away. A couple of the cats will just walk up and push their faces against the dog's snout or head - that little "bump" that shows affection and ownership.
I've been reading a book about "odd" inter-species relationships, and one story is about an adult Great Dane who adopted a newborn deer, abandoned by her mother. The deer grew up with the dog as its best friend/surrogate parent, and eventually went into the forest behind it's foster home and re-connected with others of its kind. But it sometimes came back, often after it had had young ones of its own, and introduced its offspring to the old dog who'd raised her.

When I lived in Tennessee the neighbor above me had a bull and a pig, both a tanish color. Any time you saw one you saw the other. They would get out of his pasture on occasion and I would have to chase them off the road so I could drive down the hill. It was obvious they thought of themselves as a "couple"!
