The Beatles Abbey Road hits #1 again.50 years later

    https://amp-theguardian-com.cdn.ampp...rts-abbey-road

Beatles album Abbey Road has reached the top of the UK album charts for the second time – 49 years and 252 days after it was first at No 1.

A deluxe reissue of the album was released to mark its 50th anniversary, though it may struggle to match the 17-week run the original release had at No 1.

    Paul McCartney hailed the news.

Abbey Road was one of the best albums ever released IMO, although personally I always thought that Rubber Soul was their best work given it was their first foray into a more progressive sound.

I know this is going to be controversial, but I thought the beatles music was HORRIBLE, I remember clearly the first time I ever heard of them. I was in a friends brand new mercury parklane convertible. We were listening to WNBC NYC when the DJ came on and said and NOW I GOTTA NOWHERE SONG FOR YA OUT THERE....the new english group the BEETLESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS and he started cracking up singing I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND....that came out of the dashboard we both said WTF kind is that. We both hated it and said OMG they are garbage and they of course went on to be Stratospheric Stars

Abbey Road was a great album, but it wasn't my favorite; that would be shared by several, so maybe they'll stay up atop the charts again for some time to come.

Your probably thinking more like Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers,The Deltones or the Nutmegs. I remember as a kid my older sister listening to them on WINS, NY.

Agree. Plus it has a couple of my all-time favorite Beatles songs on it - 'Norwegian Wood' and 'In My Life'. Not to mention 'Michelle'.

If we were doing the desert island thing, though - you know, "What would you take?" - I'd have to go with The White Album.

I was just reading about that new re-issue of Abbey Road, and apparently it's a three-disc compilation of additional songs, alternate takes, etc. The nearly fifty years later thing is certainly noteworthy, but with all of the additional material I'm not sure you can really say that it's the same album.

I think if I were on a deserted island and dropping acid, the White Album would be perfect!

I understand the re-issue music was re-mastered so it sounds much different then the original release. They did a compilation 3 set of additional songs, alternate takes, some interviews, etc in 1994 while the three of four were still alive tho' they used some of Lennon's recorded voice tracks on a couple of songs.

That's not controversial at all. Everyone has different taste. I think you have wonderful taste in music. I just happen to like almost every music.

Anyone remember all the controversy and hints and clues that Paul was dead?
The bare feet, black carnation, etc etc?
And of course the hints in their songs? One and one and one is three.
