Homo sapiens, modern in the fully behavioral sense, have been around for at least 50,000 years, and in the physical sense at least 150,000 to 200,000 years before that. It isn't at all realistic to suppose that we only began building cities and discovering our social and cultural potential a mere 5,500 years ago in Mesopotamia.
