My brother ther in law and I went to the Thursday night football game between the Seahawks and Rams. We took his sail boat over and spent the night in a downtown marina.
We motored back Friday morning. We happened to motor back at the same time the USS Nimitz was returning to Bremerton. The Nimitz is heading west, but bearing south to to shipyard. We are heading west also, but bearing north to our home marina. We are five to six hundred meters away from the Nimitz. That distance was increasing as we proceeded home. I was as far away from the Nimitz as I could get without running aground because of the keel of the sailboat.
I'm running the boat. My brother in law says that a navy fast boat was approaching us at a high speed. A female voice comes across a hailer telling us to move away from the US Navy war ship. I yelled back, "what are you thinking, we are not anywhere close to the ship", then I waved her off and continued my same course. In fact I closed the distance between us a bit as I had to navigate around a channel marker. She did not like me waving her off in a dismissive manner, but there was nothing she could do. She had no legal authority in those navigable waters.
I chalked it up to a young woman being in what she thought was a position of authority and she was going to excessive that authority. I just hope that she learned that not everyone is as impressed with you as you are of yourself. Many women seem to become overly impressed with themselves when they work in a predominately male field.
I did get some cool pictures of the Nimitz on my phone though. That freaking thing is huge.
